“Silence is a powerful teacher.” Sherita Love said in a zoom meeting that she facilitated on the topic of race in public schools.

Sherita Love is the coordinator of EdHub STL, an organization committed to helping schools, and students in the St. Louis region prosper despite economic and racial injustices. She hosted a zoom meeting for parents and teachers titled, “Talking to Kids about Race”, where she gave examples of systemic racism in our children’s schools.

“I was the kid impacted by systemic injustice,” Love said. “I have deep, deep work in the trenches of St. Louis education.”

Love continued that systemic racism is nothing new to her community, but it has gained a lot of media attention. “We know this is exactly who we are, and things are not getting worse. We just have more access to seeing it better.”

Social media and smartphones have brought more attention to police brutality as of late. Black Lives Matter yard signs, and peaceful protests are visible in our cities. Police presence has increased at local storefronts.
